San Diego's 2nd Annual Asian American Dance Festival Returns August 30 - September 12 Presented by TILTshift Dance and bkSOUL, AADF2026 returns with four main events – Dance Film Screening, Collaborative Residency Showcase, Community Day, and Mainstage Showcase – all part of San Diego’s first and only dance festival centering AAPI artists and their unique stories, while bringing communities together for shared dialogue. As Asian Americans we are continually navigating our identities, weaving together our ancestral heritage with our current day lives. Through this festival, AAPI dance artists tell stories of family, heritage, immigration, colonization, and assimilation. We recognize what we as Asian and Pacific Islanders inherit, what we take on, and what we let go of. We embrace our journey to become not just Asians and Pacific Islanders in America, but to become Asian Americans...finding our identity and place in this tapestry of cultures. AADF2026 EVENTS & DESCRIPTION Dance Film Screening: Sunday, Aug. 30, 5-8:30 p.m. at Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD - La Jolla) - Curated dance films by AAPI artists, as well as international films by Asian artists will be screened, with a panel discussion following immediately afterwards. 2 Audience Choice Awards and 1 Critics Choice Award (jury panel) will be announced on the last day of the festival. Doors open at 4pm - Dance Film Screening attendees receive free admission to MCASD to view the galleries prior to the start of the screening. Collaborative Residency Showcase: Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. at Light Box Theater (Liberty Station) - AADF supports local artists, providing opportunities for early to mid-career AAPI dance makers to not only present work, but also explore their unique identities, collaborate with other artists, and engage with the AAPI community in a supportive environment. This showcase presents the culminating work of the AADF2026 choreographic residents’ 7-month artistic journey into identity and dance making. Community Day: New date: Saturday, Oct. 3 (time: TBD) at City Heights Performance Annex & Jeremy Henwood Memorial Park - An all-day free event, Community Day invites local AAPI student and community artists to share short dance pieces alongside cultural dance troupes, representing the broad diversity of the Asian and Pacific Islander diaspora. Dance artists also offer classes from the stage for audiences to participate in, while dance and cultural organizations set-up booths to distribute information and offer family friendly activities. Mainstage Showcase: Saturday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at Saville Theater (San Diego City College) - A curated evening of live dance, invited dance makers share personal works that touch on their experience of living multi-culturally. These AAPI choreographers represent different cultural backgrounds and create work in various dance disciplines. Each are inspirational and accomplished artists in their own right. The San Diego Watercolor Society proudly presents the 46th International Exhibition juried by award-winning artist, Ana Laura Salazar. This highly competitive exhibition represents the very best of water-based media art from around the world. The exhibition runs from September 27-October 31, 2026 at our Gallery in The ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. The Opening Reception is Friday, October 2nd, 5-8 p.m. with over 100 ready-to-hang original paintings plus refreshments and the fellowship of other art enthusiasts. Registration is now open for the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, offering instruction for dancers of all levels, from beginners to those seeking professional-level training. Students have the opportunity to perform in beloved productions throughout the year, including the holiday tradition of "The Nutcracker." Beyond classes, SDCYB provides a variety of performance experiences, including its annual Fairy Tales in the Park this August, where students bring classic fairy tales to life on stage. The City of Chula Vista’s 4th Fest will return for the 250th celebration of our nation’s birthday, offering the public a free fireworks display at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center on Saturday, July 4. The event is open to the public and all ages are welcome. Presented by Seven Mile Casino, this year’s 4th Fest will feature a simultaneous broadcast in English and Spanish through Amor 102.9. The Elite Athlete Training Center’s gates will open at 7 p.m. and fireworks will begin at 9 p.m. Spectators are encouraged to bring their own blankets and chairs. Food will be available to purchase through a variety of vendors. In addition to free parking at the Elite Athlete Training Center, attendees can also park for free at the adjacent New Hope Community Church, located at 2720 Olympic Parkway. Mountain Hawk Park, located at 1475 Lake Crest Drive, will open starting at 7 a.m. and is another great spot to view the fireworks show. Street parking there is available on a first-come basis. All City parks close at 10 p.m. Please see the attached image for a map of the parking areas. Please be aware of several restrictions at the Elite Athlete Training Center, Mountain Hawk Park, and New Hope Community Church. At the Elite Athlete Training Center, the following items are not allowed: alcohol, tobacco (including e-cigarettes and vapes), drugs, tents and canopies/pop-ups, grills, tailgating, pets and drones. At Mountain Hawk Park, charcoal grills are not allowed (propane grills are OK); enclosed camping tents are not allowed (canopies up to 10 ft. X 10 ft. are OK, with a limit of three per party); kegs, bottles, and other glass containers are not allowed; drones are not allowed. Pets must be on leash, and personal fireworks (including sparklers) are prohibited. New Hope Community Church is available for parking only – no tailgating. Too many animals go missing around the Fourth of July. Keep pets indoors and comfortable, as loud fireworks can cause them to panic and jump or even break through fences and escape. Make sure your pet is properly identified with license and identification tags or on tape on the collar and also microchipped. If your pet escapes, check with Chula Vista Animal Services and other local shelters, and search online pet websites such as 24Petconnect and Pawboost. Neighborhood apps such as Ring and Nextdoor are also useful for posting lost or found pets. The private use of fireworks in San Diego County is against the law. To report the unauthorized use of fireworks, call the Chula Vista Police Department non-emergency line at (619) 691-5151. All City offices including libraries and recreation centers will be closed on Friday, July 3. In addition, trash pick-up in the City of Chula Vista will not be delayed.
