St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC) will celebrate six decades of empowering adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities at its 60th Anniversary fundraising event, California Dreamin’. This signature event will take place at SMSC’s secret two-acre organic garden, bringing together community leaders, philanthropists, and local businesses for a picturesque sunset celebration. Guests will enjoy a signature cocktail reception, beer and wine, an elevated sunset dinner, and a live Beach Boys tribute band. The coastal-themed evening will also include an opportunity drawing and silent auction. Proceeds from the event will benefit SMSC’s Garden and Aquatics programs that promote independence, confidence, and inclusion for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through its innovative programs, SMSC gives students a chance to develop creative outlets and learn marketable skills. The aquatics program offers year-round swimming classes and a social experience with a broad spectrum of health benefits. The organic garden serves as a reality-based work training environment, with students learning horticulture and customer services skills to improve their daily lives and branch out as important contributors to the greater community. Over 400 students attend SMSC, ranging from young adults to seniors in their eighties. All are invited to join in celebrating the center’s legacy and investing in the next 60 years of impact!
