Scripps Institution of Oceanography Oarfish are rarely known around the world as living sea-serpents and creatures out of folklore. Two rare specimens washed up on San Diego beaches in 2024. Both ended up in the Scripps Marine Vertebrate Collection, where scientists studied and preserved them. Learn more about these rarities and the collection that houses them. Craft epics tales of good fiction that slightly drift from “just the facts ma’am”, while getting feedback from other writers as well as your instructor. During each prompt in this three hour event, participants will unveil layers of wordsmithing prowess by writing vignettes of memory, based on: life’s experiences, everlasting encounters (good and bad), people and places you vividly recall, and so forth.
