"Our Domestic Resurrection Circus: Apocalypse Defiance" is the dramatic and slightly absurd title of this touring show from Vermont-based puppetry troupe Bread and Puppet Theater. It's co-presented locally by three San Diego performing arts organizations, Fern Street Circus, Animal Cracker Conspiracy and San Diego Guild of Puppetry, and it's a free, outdoor show in North Park. Bread and Puppet's productions are known to be spectacular, with giant puppets and masks, stilt walkers, music, dance and singing. Bread and Puppet Theater's philosophy revolves around the idea that art and the theater is as essential as bread, and each show ends with a bread-breaking community exercise. Literal bread: sourdough rye served with aioli, plus a bunch of low-cost books, zines and art available for sale. Details: 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022. Saturday October 29, Barrio Star is partnering with PAWS4Thought Animal Rescue to host an animal adoption event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside at their patio. The always pup-friendly restaurant located between the communities of Banker’s Hill and Hillcrest, serves a modern menu of Mexican soul fool that weaves bold Latin flavors with clever Asian touches, using fresh, local, and organic ingredients. PAWS4Thought Animal Rescue is a Bonita-based nonprofit all-breed animal rescue organization whose primary goal is to pair these pets with loving foster homes until they are adopted into their permanent “fur-ever” homes. Together, the team at Barrio Star and PAWS4Thought Animal Rescue will host plenty of food, drinks, and adorable adoptable animals eager for new homes. To spread some holiday cheer, Salt & Straw and Teremana — the super-premium, small-batch tequila brand founded by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson — are hosting a boozy ice cream happy hour pop-up with milkshakes and affogatos. The boozy beverages will be served out of a custom ice cream cart parked inside of Salt & Straw in Little Italy [1670 India St] from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20. Tickets to the event are free, and each ticket allows guests to choose a sample sized version of one of the following: Boozy Eggnog Shake featuring Salt & Straw’s Dwanta’s Teremama Spiked Eggnog, a seasonal flavor named after Johnson’s festive holiday alter-ego “Dwanta Claus,” and inspired by his favorite holiday beverage. The flavor features rich, silky custard ice cream spiced with notes of oaky vanilla from Teremana’s Reposado tequila and a splash of amontillado sherry. For the boozy milkshakes, the ice cream is spiked with additional Teremana tequila and garnished with nutmeg Teremana Affogato with tequila and espresso poured over a scoop of Salt & Straw’s Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons ice cream — one of their most popular flavors featuring Guatemalan fleur de sel and ribbons of hand-burned caramel.
