Friends of Solana Beach Library continues its “Let’s Talk” series with session 2 “AI’s Moral Dilemma: AI and Ethics” on Tuesday, November 17, 2026 from 5:30 - 6:45 p.m. The Friends of the Solana Beach Library (FOSBL) presents “AI’s Moral Dilemma: AI and Ethics” on Tuesday, November 17, 2026 from 5:30 - 6:45pm. This is the second session of a 4-part series focused on AI. Join us for this timely and thought-provoking session with Shelly Skinner, Chief, AI Solutions and Governance at Salience AI, and Tulay Muezzinoglu, an AI Engineer working in the public sector. Ethical concerns arise with the explosive growth of AI. The way AI is developed and used must take into account transparency, accountability, sustainability, bias, and human agency and wellbeing. The development and implementation raises the moral question “just because you can, does this mean you should?” The world requires AI systems that work for the good of humanity and for the environment. This talk will cover moral and ethical questions raised by the development and incomprehensible scale of AI. Discussion will include a recap of how to use AI instead of AI using you. Trabajando con plantas nativas, aprenderás a prensar un espécimen, prepararlo y acomodarlo para su montaje, identificar sus características principales y conservar información importante sobre tu hallazgo. También conoceremos la historia de los herbarios y por qué estas colecciones continúan siendo herramientas valiosas para la ciencia y la conservación. Los especímenes de plantas nativas que se utilizarán en este taller serán recolectados previamente con el permiso correspondiente y específicamente para esta actividad. We’ll also explore the history of herbaria and why these collections continue to be valuable tools for science and conservation. Native plant specimens for this workshop will be collected with prior permission specifically for this activity. Participants will not collect any additional plants during the workshop. This workshop is one of several activities taking place as part of the Latino Conservation Week “Journey Through the Wetlands” celebration and the Tijuana River Action Month kickoff.
