  • Friday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. September 27 (1 day, 3.5 total hours of instruction) On location at La Jolla Shores In this one-day workshop, students will learn more about plein air technique and painting the figure outdoors. We will paint from a life model on location at La Jolla Shores. Students are also welcome to draw instead of paint from the model if they prefer. Materials: Oil paints: Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Lemon,* Phthalo Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White (large tube,) Cadmium Orange Pure. Brushes: Robert Simmons white natural bristle flat # 40F, sizes 2,3, 4, and 6, and a small, pointed sable brush for detail; small steel palette knife. Other: Portable easel; Compose-It Grid 6 in 1; several 6” x 8” or 8” x 10” canvas boards; Gamsol odorless solvent; small cup or container; 12” x 16” wooden palette; paper towels; sun hat; old shirt.   • The Annual “Swing with Santa” Golf Tournament is back, and this year is bigger and better than ever! All are invited to join for this exciting day at the Sycuan Singing Hills Golf Resort to raise funds for St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The day starts with 7:30 a.m. check-in and a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Upon check-in, golfers will start the day receiving their exclusive event swag bag followed by delicious brunch cocktails and a breakfast burrito bar. The festivities will continue with a visit from Santa as he arrives in a helicopter to participate in the thrilling ball drop event. Throughout the day, golfers will get the chance to put their putting skills to the test. There will also be select beer holes for participants to refresh themselves throughout the day. Along with fun games and prizes at select holes, attendees will also get a shot at winning a trip to the iconic Pebble Beach during the hole-in-one contest. There will be even more chances to win big during the opportunity drawings. Individual golfers can register for $200 and foursomes can register for $750. Each foursome includes one (1) golf cart. No experience is necessary to play, and clubs will be available for rent. All golfers will receive a round of golf, lunch, and a gift bag. Plein air painting is an excellent way to learn about oil painting technique and triumph over creative issues while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow artists. The class will emphasize value study, landscape composition, and color theory using a limited palette taught through demonstration and individual instruction.
