This week of Summer Camp is all about crafts, crafts & more crafts! If you know a teen who loves making & learning new crafts, this camp is for them! We’ll cover a variety of traditional and modern craft mediums, incorporating creative exploration, fine motor skill practice, skill-building, and of course, FUN! We’ll keep things interesting, enjoyable and engaging by meeting each crafter where they’re at. Students will make a variety of fun projects to take home. Teens will explore fiber arts, ceramics, fused glass, woodworking, and more from professional craft artists. OPTIONAL | Lunch Hour Supervision If there is a camp ending as ours begins and you need your child or teen transferred, let us know! If you’d like your child or teen to stay during the lunch hour, there’s a $25 fee for the week to cover the lunchtime gap. They can bring a lunch and have lunch with us with the option to craft after lunch, or head out to grab a lunch and head back to the studio to eat in a safe, welcoming space. Inspired by the children’s book series, “Wings of Fire,” kids will create their own unique designs with paper mache, fabric and more, and will explore bookmaking and creating zines. In this 1-week camp kids will use multiple mediums and different materials to create a variety of fun, hands-on games, including a handmade Pinball Machine! STEAM principles apply at every turn as kids learn to navigate materials to design and construct their own unique interactive games. We’ll be the guides as the campers design their hearts out. Then we’ll work together to help make their designs come to life! This camp is recommended for ages 8-14 years. An Israeli airstrike on a building in northern Gaza overnight killed at least 60 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.

The “Pleasure of Your Company” music series will welcome clarinetist Vladimir Goltsman and pianist Dmitry Kirichenko on Sunday, May 19, at 2:30 p.m. at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center. Join us for a delightful afternoon of music for clarinet and piano including works from the Baroque through Romantic eras and beyond. A native of Russia, Vladimir Goltsman was trained at the Gnessin Music Institute of Moscow, where he studied with with the renowned Maestro, Professor Ivan Mozgovenko. He was a soloist for the Theater of Experimental Music in Moscow and a member of the Soloist Ensemble of “Moscow Sinfonieta.” He performed as soloist and principal clarinet of the Orquestra de Baja California, Mexico and with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. A versatile musician, he has also played with the Wayne Foster Music and Entertainment orchestra/band and served on the faculty of The Bishop’s School, where he mentored the school orchestra and jazz band. Well loved by Scripps Ranch audiences, Dmitry Kirichenko is a graduate of the Moscow and Odessa Conservatories. He has performed throughout western and eastern Europe and the San Diego area. His playing, described by Paris music critic Claude Taelman as “warm sensitivity heightened by his delicate touch and great technical mastery,” is a perfect match for the Library’s fine Schimmel piano. There is no charge for the concert, which is sponsored by the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library, although donations are appreciated. Masks are recommended but not required at this time. Miramar Ranch Library Center is located at 10301 Scripps Lake Drive. It should be noted that due to a parking lot expansion project, onsite parking is currently somewhat limited. Play, learn, explore, and discover during Kindergarten Readiness Camp at San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum! Going to school the first time can seem a little scary, but we are here to show you that learning with friends can be fun! Kindergarten Readiness Camp is designed for children ages 4-6 years old who are getting ready to enter Pre-Kindergarten, Transitional Kindergarten, or Kindergarten. In 1942, the United States incarcerated over 125,000 Japanese Americans in concentration camps during WW2—including 1150 from San Diego. AjA’s Civil Liberties Project aims to remember this history through art while drawing parallels to the injustices happening today. Come view this art exhibit at Ocean View Growing Grounds, commemorating the erased history of San Diego’s Japanese American communities and its ties to the current humanitarian crises happening locally and internationally.
