Learn the Art of Intarsia Woodworking! Sunday, August 9, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Join us in the woodshop for this 5-hour intarsia woodworking workshop! Intarsia is a woodworking technique that involves the use of varied shapes of wood to create an image or pattern. In this class, we will cover shop safety and how to use a scroll saw, as well as best practices for sanding and finishing. Students will choose from a template to transfer to their wood, creating a mosaic-like decorative wall piece. Template options will be provided, and may be altered and edited based on skill level. At the end of the workshop, each student will leave with their own intarsia project. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring their own eye protection, ear protection & apron, but we have some for borrow if needed. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome. Connessa Collective welcomes Mbira Renaissance, an award-winning Zimbabwean fusion band based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada whose music creatively melds the sounds of the mbira, a traditional instrument of the Shona people of Zimbabwe, with guitars, keyboard, and brass instruments. Their sound is a unique blend, with splashes of reggae, Afro-jazz, Chimurenga and Afro-pop. Mbira Renaissance recently released their full-length album "Roto," and we are excited to partner with New Village Arts to celebrate this ensemble's expertise and global perspective.
