For over 10 years, the Sierra Club Seal Society (SCSS) has wanted a large sculpture of a sea lion statue to be created and placed in a prominent area for all San Diegans to see. Sergey Gornushkin, President of the SD Sculptors Guild in Balboa Park, is now doing just that. My son, a friend of Sergey, initiated this wonderful event by asking him to design the statue. We are having a free commemorative event on August 29 to celebrate the unveiling of Sergey’s 7-foot long, 6-foot-high statue. It will be held in Balboa Park, by Spanish Village, Studio 36 on Saturday, August 29 from 4 - 8 p.m. There will be several speakers starting at 4 pm. Food and drinks will be served and there will be a band and DJ to dance to. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026 a Spanish Viliage, Studio 36 from 4-8 p.m.

March during Vegfest to shut down Marshall BioResources --- a criminal, animal abusing facility that breeds beagles for animal testing On September 26, we will march 1.1 miles around Balboa park during vegfest to shut down Marshall BioResources, a fortress where nearly 20,000 beagles are trapped and awaiting abuse in cages. While the MARCH TO SAVE THE DOGS SD isn't 200 miles like the march in New York, the stakes are the same and THE MISSION IS THE SAME: demand that the government shut down Marshall BioResources as society shifts to more effective, animal testing free alternatives. We stand in solidarity with our activists in New York and with the victims of MBR. Pool party afterwards! The march will be around Vegfest so there will be lots of yummy food there.
