Every year on the second weekend of March, Borrego Springs comes alive with creativity as it hosts the Circle of Art at Christmas Circle. This popular outdoor juried art show is free and open to the public, welcoming residents and visitors alike to enjoy art in a relaxed desert setting. Each Year, up to 50 artists are carefully selected to participate in the show. Circle of Art features a wide variety of artistic media, including oil and watercolor painting, photography, sculpture, pottery, weaving, mixed media, and jewelry. As a program of Soroptimist International of Borrego Springs, all proceeds from Circle of Art are directed towards supporting education and other initiatives that benefit women and girls in the Borrego Springs community. With its combination of fine art, community spirit and a meaningful mission, Circle of Art at Christmas Circle continues to be a cherished Borrego Springs tradition while making a lasting impact on the future of local women and girls. Join us for a Beer and Cheese Picnic night at Pure Project Vista. Pack your picnic supper and plan to have dinner at the brewery. We’ll kick off the evening with a five-beer and five-cheese pairing, plus a light, interesting bit of education on beer and cheese pairing ideas with Chef Dave. After the welcome tasting, you’re free to unpack your picnic, grab more beer from the bar, and enjoy the evening. Expect the usual Grainbakers class fun, a few surprise treats, sweet endings, plenty of time for lingering and conversation, and one easy Vista night with lots of Instagram-worthy moments. Event includes: - Beer and Cheese Pairing Education - 5 samples of Pure Project Beer - 5 artisan cheeses selected to pair with these beers - Reserved pincing tables and red check table cloths - Artisan Bread and butter samples from Grainbakers Breadmaking School VIP / FAQ: Participants must be 18 or older and have a ticket. Maybe you pack a fancy spread and invite three friends. Maybe you and your plus one swing by a sandwich shop on the way to the brewery. You could even order your dinner to arrive by delivery to the brewery. (We won't judge. You're a problem solver.) However you picnic, the evening begins with a curated beer and cheese flight, then it’s time to settle in, enjoy your dinner, catch the sunset, and soak up some of San Diego’s finest skies. Peg Leg Smith Liar’s Contest Since 1916 To Date Who Thomas Long Smith, miner, horse thief, Indian fighter, and notorious liar. Google him for details or YouTube for videos. What A 100 plus year old event, a perpetuation of prevarication, where participants at the event manufacture the truth or a lie about a real person, Thomas Long Smith, aka Peg Leg Smith, who allegedly found, then lost, a gold mine in the Borrego Valley back in the mid-1800’s. He existed. The mine is what is in question. Why Must be fun. It’s been held here in the Valley nearly every year, give or take a few world wars and related interferences……since 1916. Rules None. Just make up a lie about him, or not even him—most anything—that is interesting, logical, entertaining, relatively short (10 minutes or less). If it is good and you just show up and lie, you will receive a trophy (recycled) and a nice certificate good enough to frame. Pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw, and dessert are available from 5-6:30 p.m. for $12. This powerful intergenerational exhibition of Chicana portraiture brings together artists from Los Angeles and San Diego to explore identity, memory, activism, and healing through the human figure. Blending contemporary realities with ancestral memory, these figurative works honor matriarchal lineages, personal narratives, and an enduring commitment to social justice. Originally curated Sybil Venegas for Avenue 50 Studio in Los Angeles, this exhibition includes artists from different generations—Baby Boomers, Gen X and Millennials. The expanded presentation in San Diego includes local artists Marianela de la Hoz, Katie Ruiz, and Ale Ruiz Tostado, presenting their work alongside their Angeleno counterparts. Intrinsically connected to Mexico and the border, cultural influences are evident in these artists’ paintings, which align with the legacy of Chicano art while also paying tribute to long-standing Latin American traditions of magical realism and folk art. A powerful benefit concert where music, storytelling, and purpose converge in an intimate setting at The Bornemann Theatre on the TERI Campus of Life. Featuring performances by Jason Mraz, Adin Boyer, Sara Jade, Matthew Phillips, and the TERI Band—an ensemble of neurodiverse artists from TERI programs—the evening invites guests into a shared space of artistry, connection, and community. Once you purchase a ticket, you’ll receive a private streaming link and password so you can settle in, press play, and experience the show from home. "Dead Moose" tells the story of Job, an eighteen-year-old who miraculously survives a car accident with a moose. Returning home from the hospital, he begins to reassess his life in a series of non-linear vignettes — grappling with questions of death, fate, and religion. All the while, the nagging voice of the dead moose lingers in his head, pushing and provoking him at every turn. Originally conceived by writer/composer Tafolla while attending AMDA Los Angeles, "Dead Moose" first introduced audiences to its songs in 2018 at Republic of Pie in Los Angeles. A concert reading was later staged in January 2025 at the City Heights Performance Annex in San Diego, directed by Tafolla and produced by Kevin “Blax” Burroughs. Hosted in partnership with the San Diego Bird Festival, this special Nat Talk features keynote speaker Dexter Patterson, birder, storyteller, educator, and co-founder of the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin. Also known as the Wisco Birder, Dexter Patterson is passionate about making birdwatching inclusive for everyone. His lively "You Ready? Let's Go!" videos showcase his discoveries of various bird species and have earned millions of views online. As an educator, photographer, writer, and co-founder of the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin, Dexter is committed to demonstrating that birding is accessible to all. His goal is to promote inclusivity and help people connect with nature's beauty through Bird Joy. He also co-hosts the Bird Joy Podcast and is the author of Birds of the Great Lakes (Timber Press/Hachette, 2025), a birding field guide that blends birding, storytelling, and community. Through his work, he encourages a new generation of birdwatchers to explore the outdoors and appreciate the diverse life around them.
