Bressi Ranch Village Center, an open-air shopping center in the heart of the Bressi Ranch community in Carlsbad, California, will host a “Halloween Spooktacular” celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 31st, in the Bressi Ranch Park. The festivities will feature Halloween-themed crafts, bubble play, a balloon artist, a DJ, a photo opportunity, popcorn and cider. Children are encouraged to dress in their Halloween costumes and participate in a costume contest. This event is free and open to the public; no pre-registration is required to attend. Angelika Film Center's annual Hitchcocktober Film Series puts the master of suspense's best films on the big screen in October.

Guests entering the exhibit will walk beneath a canopy of giant cloth monarch butterflies, representing their journey across North America, before seeing artist Itzel Islas' illustration of Lake Xochimilco and hand-painted graphic signage about Xochimilco created by Oscar Ríos and David Mondragon.

Make Tiny Ceramics! Saturday, November 7, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. -OR- December 5, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Join us in the land of miniatures. You will learn how to throw pottery on a mini wheel and no previous pottery experience is necessary! This is a great way to try wheel throwing and learn how to center clay that is less intimidating and less commitment, and if you love it and want to learn more, the Craft Collective has a variety of weekday evening and weekend full-size ceramic wheel classes to choose from! In this 2-hour class, you will watch step-by-step how to use a mini wheel and will learn how to center the clay and open it up to form tiny pots, bowls, or plates. You will create 1-3 tiny pots over the class period. This class is a great way to learn the basics of a wheel on a small scale. It is also a small class setting, so you can get personalized one-on-one support. At the end of the class you can choose glaze colors, and once your pieces have dried a bit, they will be smoothed, trimmed, glazed and fired for you. Grab a friend or family member who’s been curious about ceramics and come join me in creating tiny pottery! Projects will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after class. No experience necessary. Ages 12+ welcome! Weeks of altars, workshops, film, food, and a candlelight procession — the Day of the Dead as Sherman Heights has kept it since 1994. Season: October 15 – November 2, 2026 Where: 2258 Island AvenueSan Diego, CA 92102 About: The Día de los Muertos celebration at the Sherman Heights Community Center is a weeks-long community festivity that preserves the Day of the Dead tradition, itself a millennial practice. It began in 1994, when Sr. Domingo Sandoval, a local resident, approached the Center asking for a space to build an altar in honor of his loved ones. Over the years the festivity has grown to include onsite community altars, front-yard altars throughout the neighborhood, craft workshops, online tutorials and videos, student tours and food tastings, a procession, and a fundraising event. The tradition is a joyous occasion, when the memory of our ancestors and the continuity of life are celebrated. Festivities run from mid-October through November 2 and are open to the public. Join us at Media Arts Center San Diego for a special screening of "Tenzing," the movie that puts legendary Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay at the center of the historic 1953 Everest climb. Directed by Jennifer Peedom and starring Genden Phuntsok and Tom Hiddleston, the film shows the clash between British officials and the deep spiritual respect the Sherpa community has for the sacred mountain.
