  • Once you’ve finished your story or essay, novel or memoir, it’s time to focus on the big little things — the editorial revisions that make all the difference to editors, agents, and readers. This three-hour workshop is for all writers who want to present their best work possible, from having a killer first sentence to a perfect title to seamless punctuation. We’ll talk about how to take an objective look at your work for content and style, how to find just the right title, and how to remedy the most common grammatical errors. You’ll learn hands-on techniques for polishing your work, and you’ll do in-class writing and editing exercises that will leave you with a next-level version of your project. Bring a work in progress, whether you’re just beginning or have a near-final draft, to work on in class. San Diego Writers, Ink on Facebook / Instagram

  • Explore color & weave effect with Log Cabin pattern! Saturday, August 22, from 1-6 p.m. In this 5-hour hands-on workshop, weavers who’ve explored the direct warping (rigid heddle) technique will learn to warp to create a multi-color textile, creating the classic pattern of log cabin. This pattern creates a 3D-effect using alternating colors in warp and weft, making it a great next step for weavers of all skill levels. In class, students will first learn best practices for warping their looms with multiple colors. You may borrow a rigid heddle loom to warp on or bring your own (please leave a note in the comments on which loom you will bring to warp if bringing your own). The remainder of the class will cover learning to weave with more than one color as weft and how to manage and create clean and balanced selvedges. Each student will create their own finished 10-20″ long log cabin textile to take home. Prerequisite: Students must have taken Warp & Weave on a Rigid Heddle Loom or be comfortable warping a rigid heddle loom using the direct warping method. All materials to warp and weave a log cabin textile are included for use. If you’re interested in learning to warp and weave on your own rigid heddle loom, please email Instructor Jeanine Ertl with what type of loom you have in advance. If you’re bringing your own rigid heddle loom to warp and weave on, please email Instructor Jeanine Ertl at aninidesigns@gmail.com to let her know which loom you will be bringing. • Class Description We live among the sacred. We all have rituals, traditions, and daily pleasures that often go unnoticed. Many writers are burned out on trauma work or simply trying to digest the daily headlines. This writing class invites writers to slow down and turn their attention to the everyday beauty that surrounds them. Through brief readings, guided prompts, and quiet reflection, students will explore how ordinary moments can carry meaning, wonder, and reverence. The sacred is open to all of us, and this class welcomes writers of all backgrounds and belief systems. We will focus on short forms such as flash nonfiction, devotionals, odes, poems, and fragments, using concrete detail and careful attention rather than abstraction. By focusing on short works, we can finish several pieces in a short time. Sharing is always optional, and the emphasis is on attention, presence, and discovery rather than performance or productivity. By the end of the course, students will have completed multiple short drafts and will have renewed ways of noticing and honoring the sacred in daily life. Instructor: Rebecca Chamaa frequently celebrates the everyday in her writing and has contributed devotionals to Strength and Grace and spiritual reflections to Guideposts magazine.
