  • Join San Diego Bird Alliance for an evening of birds and community as Kenn Kaufman reflects on a lifetime of observing, learning from, and being inspired by birds. Through stories, images, and insights drawn from decades in the field, Kenn will share his deep curiosity and expertise, helping birders of all levels connect more meaningfully with the natural world. Program 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Reception including appetizers and cash bar, open to all attendees 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Keynote Presentation 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Book Signing About the Keynote speaker: A dedicated naturalist from the age of six, Kenn Kaufman burst onto the birding scene as a teenager in the 1970s, hitch-hiking all over North America in pursuit of birds—an adventure later chronicled in his cult-classic book "Kingbird Highway." After several years as a leader of birding tours worldwide, he transitioned to a career as a writer, editor, and illustrator. Most of his energy currently goes into book projects and painting bird portraits. His 14 books include his latest, "The Birds That Audubon Missed", published in May 2024. Kenn is a field editor for the National Audubon Society, a Fellow of the American Ornithological Society, and the only person to have received the American Birding Association’s lifetime achievement award twice. • February 27 through March 22, 2026 Where there’s a Will there’s a way… Without William Shakespeare, we wouldn’t have "Romeo and Juliet", but without Henry Condell and John Heminges, we would have lost half of Shakespeare’s plays forever! Those who knew Shakespeare best thought to collect his plays into one volume to honor the legacy of the man they loved. Along the way, they’ll battle a shady publisher, drunken poet, shrinking resources, and their own mortality. Amidst the noise and color of Elizabethan London, The Book of Will tells an unforgettable true story of love, loss and laughter, and sheds new light on a man you may think you know. Advisory: Contains some adult language, drinking, and romance. Featuring: Shelley Benoit, Abbie Black, Chris Braden, Josh Click, Laura Ganz-Holton Andy Heil, Jeff Jones, Steven Jensen, Gabe Samrock, Stephen Toth, and Joseph Vitti. • First, some locals gathered to protest the anniversary of President Donald Trump’s second inauguration. Then, we tell you how students at one school in San Diego are keeping Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy alive. Also, a $10-billion data center is looking to move forward without an environmental review process. Finally, a popular San Marcos building is getting some upgrades.
  • We examine Trump's policies one year into his second term. Plus, tens of thousands of people across the nation — and in San Diego — are walking away from their daily activities and onto the streets to protest Trump's policies.
