"The Fellowship of the Ring," composed by Howard Shore, won the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 2001. The score incorporates unusual percussion instruments, including Japanese taiko drums, metal bell plates and chains beaten upon piano wires to depict the mythical creatures called Orcs.
