Leaves typically start to peak in northern states by early October, but projecting peak foliage isn't an exact science. Here are some things you can do to get the most out of fall's colors.

Highs of 82 to 87 degrees are forecast Friday for the coast, 87 to 92 degrees in inland areas, 89 to 94 in the valleys, 84 to 92 in the mountains and 98 to 103 degrees in the deserts. -
Forecasters said slightly less intense heat was expected Thursday but again predicted temperatures would be 5 to 15 degrees above average as a high- pressure system remains over California. -
The utility said that while it has enough resources to meet the expected demand, residential customers can ease the strain on the electric grid by reducing power consumption between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. -
The record-breaking heat roasting parts of San Diego County is expected to peak Wednesday as humidity generated from slow moving storms adds to the already uncomfortable conditions and threatens possible flash flooding. -
