'El Teo' Ordered To Prison To Await Trial

A federal judge in Mexico City has ordered an allegedly savage drug gang boss from Tijuana to prison to await trial on charges that include organized crime.

Mexican authorities arrested Teodoro Garcia Simental, known as "El Teo" one week ago in La Paz.

Mexico's Attorney General's office said in a press release that Garcia Simental was one of the principal leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel in Tijuana.

Garcia Simental sought backing from the Sinaloa Cartel in 2008 to battle the Arellano Felix cartel in Tijuana for control of the border city and its key drug smuggling routes to the United States.

Mexican law enforcement authorities says Garcia Simental was a top hit man for the Arellano Felix cartel before he broke away in 2008.
