Local organizations are partnering with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department to offer free or reduced price rides home on New Year's Eve.

AAA's Tipsy Tow will give a free tow home for up to seven miles from 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1.

The service provides a one-way ride for the driver and vehicle to the driver's home. Call 800-400-4AAA or click here for more information.

Be My DD also allows you to reserve a personal driver to drive you in your car to wherever you're going. The driver picks you up, drives you to your location, then waits with your car and drives you home when you're ready to leave. The service costs $45 for three hours, $15 for each additional hour.

The company will also come meet you wherever you are and drive you and your car home for $25 plus mileage. Call 1-877-823-6933 or click here to make a reservation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said 774 people were killed in California last year as a result of alcohol-related crashes. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is planning extra patrols and DUI checkpoints all over the county.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
