App for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android

The Rick Steves Audio Europe app organizes Rick's vast and varied library of audio content into geographic-specific playlists so you can enjoy ready access to the information that relates specifically to your travel plans. You'll get Rick's self-guided tours for dozens of Europe's top museums, sights and historic walks — plus 200 tracks of travel tips and cultural insights from his radio show — all for free!

"Venice And Its Lagoon" - Venice, more than any other European city, has an endlessly seductive charm. For centuries, it was nicknamed La Serenissima, "The Most Serenely Beautiful One" - and for good reason.

Along with sampling the sumptuous art treasures of Venice and exploring its back-street wonders, we cruise its lagoon, stopping in fiery Murano for glass, pastel Burano for lace, and murky Torcello for a sense of where Venice was born.

Rick Steves: Venice, Italy: Island Hopping in the Lagoon

After Rome fell, farmers on Venice's mainland were sick and tired of being overrun by barbarians and moved out into this lagoon, and hoped the barbarians didn't like water. Today, these towns' back lanes give you a candid peek at a peaceful slice of the Venetian lagoon most visitors miss.

For an appropriate meal during your back lane adventure, pop into a bar serving cicchetti — Venetian hors d'oeuvres.

RICK STEVES' EUROPE: Venice, Italy: Gondola Gliding

For open air art in Venice, you need only to look at the canals. Sleek and graceful, gondolas are a symbol of this most serene city. On a gondola, romantics glide through their own parallel Venice, experiencing echoes of the past, and reflections of once upon a time grandeur.

More than any other city, Venice is the place to get out early, or stay out late, where around each corner is an excuse to savor the magic of the city.
