What Do You Think Of The New Trailer For 'American Sniper'? (Video)

American Sniper – Trailer – Official UK Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Pictures just released the first glimpse of the movie "American Sniper," based on the late Chris Kyle's bestselling memoir, American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History.

Bradley Cooper stars, Clint Eastwood directs, and based on the trailer (posted up top), the movie is sure to raise a lot of controversy.

NOLA.com gives a glowing review of the trailer:

It's all built around a single, intense scene from the movie in which Cooper's character — based on the man recognized as the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history — is forced to make a life-or-death decision on whether to pull the trigger or not.

As it plays, Cooper's mind flashes back to his life back home, and all that he is fighting for.
Slate.com points out that the trailer doesn't show any of Kyle's 160 confirmed kills, and then speculates if director Eastwood explored Kyle's tragic death in the film:
Though Kyle returned home safe with an honorable discharge in 2009, he was ultimately killed last year at a shooting range in Texas. Police said he was shot by Eddie Ray Routh, a 25-year-old veteran whom Kyle was seemingly trying to help. (Routh is still awaiting trial.)

How Eastwood will handle (or not handle) Kyle’s death remains to be seen.
According to People magazine, the movie "American Sniper" is already generating Oscar buzz, based in part on Bradley Cooper's performance.

Cooper actually had the opportunity to talk with Kyle before the Navy SEAL's untimely death. Cooper told USA Today:

“Thank God I got to talk to him once on the phone. It was a very quick conversation. But I did tell him how serious I was about making this movie. And he should just know that whatever fears he had about Hollywood, to just put them aside and trust me. That I was going to do everything I could to tell this story.”

"American Sniper" opens in limited release Christmas Day, and in wide release on Jan. 16, 2015.
