Carmen Lopez, Latino outreach coordinator for the San Diego County Registrar of Voters Office, urges City Heights residents to sign up to vote, Sept. 22, 2015.

People who wish to register to vote or switch party affiliations in time for the June 7 primary election have one more week to do so, San Diego County Registrar of Voters Michael Vu said Monday.

He said voters may need to re-register by May 23 for other reasons, too.

"If you've moved recently or changed your name, you'll need to fill out a new registration form," Vu said. "If you go online, the process is quick, easy and convenient."

He urged residents to check their registration status online at sdvote.com.

Presidential candidates will not appear on ballots for those registered as no party preference or nonpartisan, he said.

Such voters can request a ballot for the American Independent, Democratic or Libertarian parties if they want to vote for one of their presidential candidates. Those who want to vote for a presidential candidate in the Green, Peace & Freedom or Republican parties have to re-register with that party.

The election will feature races for president, Congress, Legislature and, in the city of San Diego, for mayor, city attorney and City Council. Numerous propositions will also appear on the ballot.

Registered voters who want a mail ballot have to make their request by May 31. Around 900,000 have already been sent out.

Voters can also cast ballots early at the registrar's office, 5200 Overland Ave. in Kearny Mesa, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays until the polls close on June 7.
