Most Californians are of one mind when it comes to sex education and access to contraceptives. That's one of the findings of a new statewide survey conducted by the non-partisan Public Policy Institute of California. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.
The PPIC survey reveals a vast majority of Californians favor the idea of comprehensive sex education for young people. Most residents believe these classes should teach students how to use and access contraceptives and that the federal government should fund the education.
Survey director Mark Baldassare says Californians think sex education works.
Baldassare: "In their minds, sex education is proven to reduce the numbers of unwanted pregnancies, and help reduce the spread of AIDS."
The survey also finds abortion continues to be an important issue for Californians. Seven out of ten residents believe the Supreme Court should uphold a woman's right to an abortion.
