KPBS joins the La Jolla Music Society's SummerFest 20th Anniversary Celebration by broadcasting SummerFest Encounters, hosted by Maureen Cavanaugh. Real people, real stories, stimulating conversation and musical performances, the Encounters go behind the scenes with some of today's most celebrated artists.

- Wayne Shorter has been a part of jazz history, working with legends such as John Coltrane, Maynard Furguson, Art Blakey and Miles Davis. As a musician, Wayne Shorter is known as a master of the tenor and soprano saxophone, a jazz player who has it all from swing to lyrical romance. As a composer, he's known for ground-breaking music, which picks up influences from the classics, from visual art, other cultures and from his explorations of life itself.
