The Carlsbad City Council has voted to approve a multimillion dollar cost increase for the city's new golf course. The city’s engineer says the construction budget jumped to $55 million from $48 million because of unexpected conditions at the 400-acre site, errors, omissions and unbudgeted items.
The course covers 400 acres north of Palomar Airport Road and east of Legoland, more than half of which will be preserved as natural habitat. Besides an 18-hole championship course, the project includes a 23,000-square-foot clubhouse, which will offer a full-service restaurant. The city will rent the clubhouse out for events.
