Governor Schwarzenegger is now recovering from what his surgeon is calling a successful operation to repair his right femur this morning. Marianne Russ reports.
Schwarzenegger will remain in the Los Angeles-area hospital for three days – which his physician says is standard for the procedure. During the hour-and-a-half-long surgery, doctors used cables and screws to wire together the two major fragments of the Governor’s femur.
Schwarzenegger broke the thigh bone Saturday while skiing in Sun Valley, Idaho. While he was under anesthesia, Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustmante temporarily took over the gubernatorial duties. Schwarzenegger was cleared to resume the job at 10:45 Tuesday morning. In a statement, the Governor’s surgeon, Dr. Kevin Ehrhart said he expects Schwarzenegger to fully recover – that should take about eight weeks. The Governor is not in a cast and will use crutches. His inauguration is still planned for January 5th.
