The winter weather moving through San Diego County should help boost local rainfall totals, but December will probably end up being drier than normal. KPBS Reporter Erik Anderson has details.
The winter storm system moving though the county will help bring rainfall totals closer to normal. National Weather Service forecaster Steve Vanderburg says rainfall totals at San Diego’s Lindberg Field have been lagging since the rainy season began in July.
Vanderburg: We’ve had one point five two inches of rain. And normally by this point we’ve already seen two point eight two, so we’re a little over an inch below normal. And for the month we’re almost a half inch below normal for the month.
The U.S. Drought monitor reports more than half of the country is suffering from drier than normal conditions. On the positive side, the National Weather Service’s climate prediction center says the San Diego area will not be experiencing drought conditions when Spring arrives. Erik Anderson KPBS News.
