California State University faculty members will begin picketing at all CSU campuses when students return from winter break in a couple of weeks. KPBS Reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.
Picketing is expected to take place at San Diego State and the 22 other CSU campuses. The action comes after the CSU faculty union and the CSU administration failed to reach a new labor contract this month. The dispute is over money. The CSU has offered the union a 24 percent raise over the next three years. But union president John Travis says that doesn't solve the current problem in the CSU system where newly hired faculty members get paid more than long-term faculty members.
Travis: Its hard to attract faculty, so they're having to pay incoming faculty more. But what they've neglected is the faculty that they've hired two three years ago.
The union wants the CSU administration to develop a system where junior faculty get paid the same or more than new hires. Ana Tintocalis, KPBS News.
