A former U.S. Attorney says Carol Lam may lose her job because of her record on border-crime prosecutions. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the Bush administration has asked Lam to resign.
Former U.S. Attorney Chuck LaBella says she might have fallen out of favor because she didn't prosecute as many smuggling and immigration cases.
LaBella: I think she had some successes and some failures. I think she has a mixed record in the white collar area, but she certainly put her resources there. Whether she did it to the detriment of the border, I guess Washington would know that best because they have the statistics.
Lam is prosecuting suspected drug lord Javier Arellano-Felix. She has avoided smaller cases of border-related crime. Lam prosecuted San Diego Congressman "Duke" Cunningham, as well as two San Diego city councilmen in corruption cases.
