Norv Turner to Lead the Chargers

One week after firing Marty Schottenheimer, the San Diego Chargers have hired Norv Turner to be the team's next head coach. Why did the team select Turner? Who will be the next defensive coordinator

Tom Fudge: The San Diego Chargers have a new head coach. Norv Turner is a former head coach for Washington and Oakland. And he has a history with the Chargers. Earlier this decade, Turner was offensive coordinator for the Chargers. Most recently he worked as offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.

Many Chargers fans have reacted Turner's hire like they were getting a pair of socks for Christmas. Turner replaces Marty Schottenheimer, who had one of the winningest records in NFL history. Turner, by contrast, has had a lackluster record, 58 - 82 as a head coach.
