A hot spell is headed our way. The National Weather Service says unseasonably warm, dry conditions caused the agency to issue a 36-hour wildfire watch.

A hot spell is headed our way. The National Weather Service says unseasonably warm, dry conditions caused the agency to issue a 36-hour wildfire watch.

Increasing high pressure and diminishing ocean winds will bring high temperatures and arid air that will combine to create "critical" combustion hazards in the San Diego area through Monday evening. National Weather Service forecaster Steve Vanderburg's perspective:

Vanderburg : We don't expect the winds to get too out of hand so we're going to have a little bit of a northeast to east wind blowing through the passes and canyons but we're not really expecting much over 25 or 35 miles-per-hour. So, luckily, we're not going to have to deal too much with the wind -- it looks more like it's just going to be dry and warm.

He says the hot spell will likely bring near-record temperatures in some inland areas of San Diego County and it won't cool off too much during the nighttime.
