Alison St John (Guest Host): You may have seen Ed Begley in the TV shows St. Elsewhere and Six Feet Under , but have you seen him in his pseudo reality show, Living with Ed ? Ed is a Hollywood star who has chosen to live in a small home, put solar panels on his roof and rain barrels in the garden, and he has surrounded it all with a white picket fence made of recycled milk bottles. The only problem is his wife, Rachelle, isn't too keen on the bright red rain barrels, she thinks he spends way too much time on the roof, and she wishes he wouldn't go up there in his clogs!
Want to meet Ed? He is in San Diego for an event called Street Smart to talk about alternative fuel vehicles, and raise some money for the Center for Sustainable Energy. Street Smart runs Thursday, May 17, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Prado Ballroom, Balboa Park. The VIP fund raiser will showcase a full complement of electric, hybrid, clean natural gas, flex-fuel, hydrogen fuel cell and otherwise clean burning vehicles and spec cars. The event is designed to educate citizens about why they are important -- and the incentives for purchasing these vehicles.
KPBS listeners get green pricing of $99 (versus the $125 ticket price) by simply mentioning KPBS. Proceeds benefit the California Center for Sustainable Energy. For more information, visit
