Lightning is sweeping across the sky today in isolated areas of San Diego and Riverside counties as scattered thunderstorms move across Southern California, creating the potential for fire growth.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag warning lasting through midnight for parts of those counties.

Forecasters say the combo of lighting and dry weather conditions equals an explosive setting for fires.

The thunderstorms bring gusty winds and little or no rain and will increase as the system moves northeast.
