Insurance seems like a necessity in modern-day life -- to protect our cars, homes, health and loved ones. But many homeowners learned they were under-insured after the 2003 firestorms. In 2004, Scripps Ranch residents led a fight against the insurance industry, arguing their policies didn't cover the cost of replacing their homes.

Four years later, fire survivor Karen Reimus says little has changed, and victims of the next large-scale disaster will likely face the same problem. Rebecca Tolin reports.
