Suit Forces Walmart to Remit $4 Million in Unpaid Overtime Wages
Walmart will pay nearly $4 million in overtime wages to 50,000 workers throughout California. It's part of a settlement reached between Walmart and the California Labor Commission. The mega retailer says the underpayment was due to payroll processing errors.
Dean Fryer is an official with the California Department of Industrial Relations . He says the company came to the agency with the problem in 2005.
Fryer : The settlement agreement basically puts back to the employees all overtime that they were owed that wasn't paid. In addition it pays the employees waiting time penalties.
Walmart also agreed to pay nearly $200,000 in civil penalties to the state.
