Democratic Lawmakers Question Head of EPA

Democratic lawmakers pressed the head of the Environmental Protection Agency for details about why the agency denied cleaner air standards for California cars and trucks. Sara Sciammacco has more from Washington.

Some Democrats have been investigating allegations that the White House acted improperly. New documents show scientists at the EPA unanimously supported California's request for a waiver to enforce standards. They also show administrator Stephen Johnson supported it. At a hearing on Capitol Hill California Democrat Henry Waxman asked Johnson whether officials at the White House influenced him to change his mind.

Waxman:  “You changed your position after you talked with the White House, is that accurate?”

Johnson:  "I don't believe that is a fair characterization Mr. Chairman. I evaluated all options from moving from a full approval to a denial and options in between."

Some House lawmakers are trying to overturn California's denial.
