Hundreds of Fires Burn In California
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says the state's working to come up with extra resources to fight the hundreds of fires burning statewide.
The state's fire fighting agency, CAL FIRE , says roughly 100 blazes in remote areas aren't even being staffed yet. Statewide, the governor says there are more than 4000 state fire fighters battling the blaze, but resources can be a struggle in a case like this.
Schwarzenegger: "Well, we have manpower and we have equipment, but like I said, not when you have this kind of a situation when you have that many fires at one given time, and that's why we are trying to get help, not only from the federal government, but also from our neighboring states."
The governor has also called in the National Guard to help fight some of the fires. Some 100,000 acres have burned and hundreds of structures have been threatened. Lightning strikes have sparked more than 700 fires over the past few days in California.
