A concert Friday night in San Diego is billed as a benefit party to promote healing from last October's wildfires. The money will benefit the Rancho Bernardo Recovery Center. KPBS Environmental Reporter Ed Joyce has more.
Rock bands Great White and Asia, along with Dokken and Sweet are the headliners.
Great White was on a Rhode Island nightclub stage five years ago when the band's pyrotechnics ignited a fire that killed 100 people, including the band's lead guitarist.
George Salameh is general manager for Love and Roll Productions, which is producing the benefit.
He says last October's wildfires destroyed the Orange County home of Great White's former drummer.
Salameh:
It's a way for them to reconnect with the general public. In fact we've gotten really, really good attention and good positive attention quite frankly from having them come aboard. They're donating some of their proceeds to this event.
Salameh says 90-percent of the money raised will go to Rancho Bernardo United to help fire victims with counseling, insurance and other needs.
He says 360 homes were destroyed in the San Diego neighborhood last October - and nearly 60-percent of those victims have yet to rebuild.
