A state regulatory agency postponed a vote to consider a plan to offset damage from a proposed desalination plant in Carlsbad. KPBS Environment Reporter Ed Joyce has details.
The San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board moved the vote to April.
The board wants more information on how the desalination plant would affect marine life before considering Poseidon Resources' plan to offset that harm.
Two state regulatory agencies have previously approved the company's plan to restore 55 acres of marine wetlands.
Poseidon Resources spokesman Scott Maloni says the water board wants that restoration work only in San Diego County.
Maloni says it's possible that work could happen at several locations.
Maloni: The regional board in the comments they made today also suggested they think a multiple site plan is the best way to go.
The California Coastal Commission determined the desalination plant would affect the equivalent of at least 37 acres of sensitive lagoon habitat.
Maloni is optimistic construction will begin next summer.
