New Play Based on the Writing of Grace Paley
Maureen Cavanaught: What was it like to be a young Jewish woman in the mid 20th century, in New York, the child of immigrants, smart, funny, dealing with the social and political upheavals of that time and, by the way, trying to become a creative artist? A new play opening tonight in downtown San Diego attempts to answer that question, guided by the works of celebrated writer Grace Paley. The play centers around Paley's alter-ego named Faith and it's called Acts of Faith .
Acts of Faith opens on March 8th and runs through March 29th at the Tenth Avenue Playhouse.
Guests:
- Kathy Jones adapted Acts of Faith from Paley's work. She's the Managing Director of Later Than Ever productions and a professor emerita in Women's Studies from San Diego State.
- Sharon Blumenthal co-adapted Acts of Faith and is directing the play.
- Linda Libby is a San Diego actress. She is playing the lead character in this production.
