Obama Nominates San Diego Judge To US District Court

President Barack Obama today nominated San Diego Magistrate Judge Anthony Battaglia to a U.S. District Court judgeship.

Battaglia has served as a magistrate in the Southern District of California -- which includes San Diego -- since 1993.

Prior to taking the bench, Battaglia spent 19 years as a civil litigator in San Diego, specializing in personal injury, products liability and maritime law, according to the White House.

Obama also made two other federal court judgeship nominations today -- Superior Court Edward Davila in the Northern District of California and attorney Robert L. Wilkins in the District of Columbia.

"These distinguished individuals have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to justice throughout their careers," Obama said. "I am grateful for their decision to serve the American people from the District Court bench."

The nominations will be considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee before going before the full Senate.
