A power outage left about 7,450 central San Diego homes and businesses without electrical service for nearly 90 minutes this afternoon.
The blackout began about 12:15 p.m., when a trash truck crashed into and downed a utility pole in an alley off Madison Avenue and 38th Street, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.
The accident knocked out power to neighborhoods around Chollas Creek, City Heights, the College area, Kensington, Normal Heights, North Park, Oak Park, Talmadge and University Heights.
By 1:40 p.m., crews had restored service to all but about 180 customers, SDG&E spokeswoman Allison Zaragoza said.
Those addresses -- in Kensington, the College area and University Heights -- were expected to be without power until early evening, she said.
