A Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton was killed this weekend in a car accident. The 25-year-old, whose identity has not yet been released, was the passenger in a 2005 Ford Mustang that slammed into a palm tree after hydroplaning on the rain-slicked roadway, according to the North County Times. The collision caused the tree to then fall on the car.
The accident happened at roughly 12:50 a.m. Saturday morning on the section of Coast Highway near Michigan Street in Oceanside.
City News Service reports paramedics extricated both the driver of the Mustang and the Marine and took them to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. Doctors declared the Marine dead at 2:55 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities have not released the identity of the driver.
