Chapter Ten
Studying during her break in anatomy lab one day, a man walks in and asks what she is doing there. She tells him she is studying and he remarks she must be a child prodigy because she looks so young. She angrily tells him she is 19 and storms out. A few days later he finds her watching her friends play ping pong. He tries to apologize, but she ignores him. He introduces himself as Kyan Ameri. He flirts with her a little and she starts to smile, not realizing how good he looked. She complains about anatomy and he promises to help her. Over the next weeks Kyan helps Roya, and makes them end every session with tea in the cafeteria. One day, Roya runs into Shireen at the library and Shireen tells her she is three months pregnant.
Summer comes and Kyan goes back to his hometown. Pedar mentions he is going to Golsara, their farm, to see it one last time before it goes. Roya is confused, but when asking what he means receives a glare from Reza. She knows he is keeping the beet farm where he gets most of his income, but he is still unhappy with the Shah’s decision to take his land. Auntie says someone must go with him to gather their things from the big house and Roya volunteers. Reza later thanks her for volunteering and expresses how he feels his presence only makes Pedar angrier.
They arrive in Golsara to see an almost desolate town. Roya learns that Pedar has arranged for housing for the villagers in his beet farm, and many of them have already moved. Roya packs up the house and two days later they leave. She never sees Golsara again.
