— Oliver Ortega Chua (@ochua1) May 1, 2014San Diego firefighters quickly gained the upper hand Thursday afternoon when a brush fire started in Rancho Peñasquitos that threatened at least one home, officials said.
Less than an hour after the first call, the 1/4-acre blaze near Interstate 15 and state Route 56 was knocked down and a helicopter request had been canceled, a San Diego fire dispatcher said.
The dispatcher also said it appeared the roof of one home in the area was burning but the structure never fully caught fire.
San Diego fire department's Lee Swanson said the fire was "slow moving."
At least 10 units responded to the one-alarm vegetation fire just south of Carmel Mountain Road. The call first came in at 12:48 p.m. when a palm tree was reported on fire, according to California Highway Patrol.
