47,000 Lose Power In North Park, Hillcrest Saturday After Circuit Breaker Failure

A circuit breaker failure at a North Park electric substation temporarily left nearly 47,000 area homes and businesses without electricity Saturday.

The widespread outage hit shortly before 8 a.m., when the top of a breaker fell off at the substation at Iowa Street and El Cajon Boulevard, according to San Diego Gas & Electric spokeswoman Samya France.

Service was restored by about 9:30 a.m. to all the SDG&E customers, except three. The outage hit University Heights, North Park, Normal Heights, Center City, Balboa Park, Golden Hill, Kensington, Talmadge, College, Old Town, Mission Hills and Hillcrest neighborhoods, according to the utility.
