A North Hollywood man killed while trying to cross Interstate 5 at Camp Pendleton Sunday night was identified Tuesday.
Stephen Chavez, 24, tried to cross the freeway about 11:20 p.m. and was struck by a white mid-sized pickup that kept going, according to the California Highway Patrol and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
Chavez tried to get up but was hit by a small SUV, which spun out and collided with three other vehicles, the CHP reported.
Chavez was then struck by several other vehicles and declared dead at the scene, the CHP said.
