One of my favorite stories to tell people about Balboa Park is when I was giving my friend from out of town directions to the Morley Field Disc Golf Course, where we were going to meet for a friendly match.

They went something along the lines of: "You can park by the velodrome, pass the LARPers (live action role players), and then the archery range, and the office will be there."

My friend started laughing at the randomness of the things I had just named all within one tiny corner of the park. But that's what I love about it. There is something for everyone, no matter now niche your interests might be. It's one of those places where no matter when I go, there is always something fun happening.

One time my boyfriend and I wandered into an open house for the mycology society of San Diego and ended up learning some amazing things about mushrooms (as well as getting to eat some amazing cream of mushroom soup!).

It's truly a city treasure, and I always leave knowing something I didn't know before I came.

KPBS is collecting your Balboa Park memories as the city marks the 100th anniversary of Balboa Park's 1915 Panama-California Exposition.
