Rendering of Bashor Field in honor of Dianne Bashor's $15 million gift announced Dec. 5, 2019, to San Diego State for the Mission Valley stadium project.

San Diego State University announced Thursday that La Jolla philanthropist Dianne Bashor donated $15 million toward the university's new stadium project in Mission Valley.

It is one of the largest single gifts in the university’s history, said SDSU President Adela de la Torre during a campus ceremony. The school will rename the Aztec home football field to Bashor Field.

The stadium will be the centerpiece of the SDSU West project slated for the land where SDCCU stadium, the former home of the San Diego Chargers, now sits. The project will also include satellite campus, a park along the San Diego River, commercial and residential space and a bridge extending Fenton Parkway over the San Diego River.

SDSU Athletic Director John David Wicker said Bashor’s donation "will bring the project one step closer to getting shovels on the ground in 2020."
