FESTIVALS
There is a little something for everyone this weekend at the La Jolla Festival of the Arts. Take your child (or find your inner hopscotch lover) to see street artists creating chalk masterpieces, wander to Warwick’s for book signings, and groove to local music. Whatever event(s) you go for, be sure bring your appetite!! Restaurant Row will be vending eclectic tastes.
If you prefer cook-offs and beer gardens to chalk art and book signings, take your Saturday to the Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off. The OB streets will be lined with rides, vendors, artists, musicians and of course chili. We are especially excited for The Styletones, the local three horn funk and soul band that's caught our eye (and ears!).
MUSIC
Southern California summers mean scorching days and cool nights, but this Friday, the heat goes long into the night with Ruby and the Red Hots. They will be playing their jazzy ballads and bluesy numbers at Carlsbad’s TGIF Jazz concert.
ART
Replace ruthless, sneaky and murderous (think Tony Soprano), with artsy, crafty and creative (think Velvet Klaw) and we have San Diego North Park Craft Mafia. So go on and get crafty tonight at Queen Bee's Art & Culture Center where the Craft Mafia is putting on a free fashion show.
If you don’t have $1,200 to spend on an actual trip to India, head over to San Diego’s Museum of Man tonight for their Tower After Hours program. This evening, their 100-foot rotunda will be transformed into a cultural commune, where guests can enjoy the food, drink and dance of India.
Help The Athenaeum celebrate 20 years and over 200 exhibitions all during this upcoming month! “It All Adds Up: Celebrating Twenty Years of Exhibitions” opens this Friday evening with never before seen portraits, photos, reviews and a secret sale. We’re thinking that this definitely tops our 20th birthday party.
Fly on over to the San Diego Air Space Museum for the 24th Annual International Aerospace Art Exhibition where seventy of the best aviation artworks are on display. And if your interests extend beyond the sky and into the “extra terrestrial,” SDASM has“The Science of… Aliens,” which explores the possibility of actual alien life.
Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills and Nash has curated a selection of photographs currently on view at MoPA. “Taking Aim: Unforgettable Rock ‘n’ Roll Photographs Selected by Graham Nash” chronicles 50 years of music through the lenses of 40 iconic photographers.
We all claim to love long moonlight walks along the beach, but realistically, when was the last time we said no to Netflix and found ourselves outside after hours? With Scripps Institution of Oceanography offering a full-moon walk on Scripps Pier this Friday (usually blocked off to the public) there is no excuse not to make the most of the moonlight.
FILM
Forgo a traditional evening at the movies this Friday for a screening of the 1920’s silent movie “Feel My Pulse.” Philip Carli, renowned silent film accompanist, will be providing both education and entertainment (in the form of engaging piano accompaniment) during the screening, making the event a “must go” for movie and music lovers alike. It’s at 7:30 p.m. at MiraCoasta College and it's free!!

THEATER
Linus, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder, Pig-Pen and Charlie Brown have all grown up. The security blanket has been burned, and sex, drugs and cursing are left in its wake. See the gang – in their teenage years-- this weekend during InterMission's production of “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead.”
In the mood for some live comedy? Comedy Nights at the Del Mar Fair runs throughout the summer - Mal Hall (a San Diegan) and Mark Christopher Lawrence perform on Friday.
