Actor Val Kilmer will be in San Diego on Dec. 8 to introduce his filmed one-man show "Citizen Twain" at Landmark's Ken Cinema.
If you are still sorting through emotions about this year’s presidential election, then here’s someone who might be able to help — Mark Twain.
Samuel Clemens, who wrote under the name of Mark Twain, started his career in the late 19th century but his keen observations still resonate today.
"All you need is ignorance and confidence, and success is sure" is one of the famous Twain quotes that actor-writer-director Kilmer includes in his one-man show, "Citizen Twain."
Kilmer began working on a screenplay about Twain more than a decade ago but found that making a film about Twain was financially challenging. So, he shifted gears and created a live one-man show that he performed at multiple venues in Los Angeles and in San Jose. He then filmed that stage show, which he has been touring to art house cinemas to present.
Another quote that Kilmer includes in his show reveals that Twain may connect quite well with 21st century voters.
"Elections, that’s when people find out what politicians will stand for and politicians find out what people will fall for… politics, that’s just showbiz for ugly folk," Kilmer says in his performance as Twain.
Kilmer has created a one-man show that lets the author and humorist shine with a surprisingly modern wit. But intelligence never goes out of style.
Kilmer will introduce the 90-minute film and conduct a question and answer session with the audience following the screening. VIP ticket holders will have an opportunity to meet the actor.
