The wave of violence south of the border continues. A dozen people were murdered in Tijuana and Rosarito this weekend. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has the story.
140 people have been murdered in Tijuana during the last 25 days.
This weekend's dozen include a Tijuana City Official. Authorities say gunmen burst into his home Sunday morning and killed him. His family was there.
Authorities also found a man who'd been decapitated and three metal drums filled with what they suspect are human remains.
Five policemen have been ambushed since last Thursday. That brings the number of law officers killed in this recent wave of violence to eight.
In Tijuana and Rosarito, a total of 26 law enforcement officials have died since the start of the year.
Authorities blame the more than 140 murders on a feud between factions of Tijuana's Arellano Felix Cartel.
They say an unruly lieutenant is wrecking havoc in attempt to grab power. They suspect the Sinaloa Cartel, which is an Arellano Felix rival, is backing him.
